Model answer · three-tier judicial system, consumer protection

    1. 1.For redressal of complains of consumers, government established a three tier semi-judicial system under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, the first level of which is the District Forum established at the district level. If the pricing of a good or service or compensation demanded is less than 20 lakh rupees, then complain can be lodged in the District Forum. There are 582 District Forums working in our country. If the consumer is not satisfied with the decision of the District Forum, the matter can be referred further to the State Commission.1 mark
    2. 2.The second level of the three tier semi-judicial system is the State Commission established at the state level. If the price of good or service or compensation demanded is more than 20 lakh and below one crore rupees, complain is lodged in the State Commission. There are 35 State Commissions working in our country. If the consumer is not satisfied with the decision of the State Commission, then matter can be referred to the National Commission.1.5 marks
    3. 3.The third and highest level of the three tier semi-judicial system is the National Commission established at the national level.
