Model answer · Problems of sustainable development

    1. 1.Two problems related to sustainable development are food and water. Food: The amount of rich, fertile land needed to grow crops, such as wheat, rice, etc., is becoming less as we are using up more and more land for other purposes. Water: We use fresh water from rivers and ponds for drinking and cleaning but dump garbage into them, so the rivers and ponds are getting polluted.2 marks
    • Name each problem first ("Food:", "Water:") and then give its reason.
    • For food, write that "rich, fertile land" is becoming less because land is used for other purposes.
    • For water, write that we use fresh water from rivers and ponds "but dump garbage into them".

Model answer · Affordable and clean energy

    1. 1.Two ways to get clean and affordable energy are: (i) Solar power: Using solar power, i.e., power generated using the sun, does not cause pollution as it does not require burning of non-renewable fuels, such as coal. Energy from the sun is unlimited, so it meets our electricity needs without using up natural resources. (ii) Biogas: Use of biogas is an eco-friendly alternative to natural gas.2 marks
    • For solar power, write the reason it is clean: it "does not require burning of non-renewable fuels, such as coal".
    • For biogas, write that it is "an eco-friendly alternative to natural gas".
    • Give two ways and name each one clearly, as (i) and (ii).
